Find Nantucket County Released Inmates

Nantucket County released inmates can leave one agency while remaining in another agency’s custody. A Nantucket County released inmate search must therefore follow the police lockup, the Sheriff’s transport role, the mainland correctional facility, and the court record. Nantucket County released inmates usually disappear from any current-custody view once the reporting agency ends its hold. Release records, state corrections records, court dispositions, and supervision records then provide the durable trail. To search for Nantucket County released inmates, first identify the last custodian and whether the event was a community release or a transfer.

Nantucket County Release Chain

Nantucket has no conventional county jail or house of correction. The Nantucket Police Department books and temporarily holds a person after a local arrest. The Nantucket County Sheriff supplies court security and moves people off the island. Adults who are not released locally may be taken to Barnstable County Correctional Facility in Bourne under the counties’ contract. Each handoff creates a different record. An NPD custody-end entry, a Sheriff transport record, and a BCSO admission record can all describe the same local case.

“Released from Nantucket Police custody” does not always mean free in the community. It may mean the person entered the Sheriff’s transport custody. Likewise, a Barnstable record may show that the person left BCCF for the Massachusetts Department of Correction, another county, federal custody, or a guarded hospital. That event is a transfer unless the destination proves community release. A precise search names the custodian, the release type, the time, and the destination.

Release
A physical end to one custodian’s hold.
Discharge
The legal end of a sentence or corrections jurisdiction.
Transfer
Movement to another agency while custody continues.
Time served
A release because the ordered custodial term has been completed.

Nantucket County Release Types

The release label controls where a Nantucket County released person appears next. Bail or personal recognizance may end a short police hold. A court order, dismissal, sentence expiration, or time-served ruling may produce a community release. Parole ends confinement but leaves the person under Parole Board jurisdiction. Probation is court supervision and can begin after a custodial term or instead of one. A transfer, writ, warrant, or detainer can end one booking while another lawful hold continues.

ParoleConfinement ends while sentence jurisdiction continuesMA DOC record and Parole Board route
Probation dispositionThe court orders community supervisionNantucket court docket
Transfer or detainerThe named facility’s hold ends but custody may continueDestination field and receiving agency

A charge dismissal also may not result in immediate exit. An unrelated warrant, a second sentence, or a receiving agency can keep the person in custody. The record must identify what happened after the local legal basis ended.

Note: Read every Nantucket County release code with its destination because a custody-ending date alone does not prove a community exit.

Nantucket County Release Record Fields

A useful Nantucket County release record joins identity, legal authority, timing, and destination. It should permit a reader to separate a community exit from a routine off-island transfer. Names alone are weak identifiers, especially when spellings or aliases differ. A booking, incident, commitment, or docket number ties the person to the correct episode. The court explains why release was authorized, while the custodian’s transaction shows when the physical hold ended.

FieldWhat it shows
Full name and identifiersLinks the event to the right person and reduces same-name mistakes
Booking or commitment numberConnects admission, custody, property, and release entries
Arresting or committing agencyIdentifies which office began the hold
Court and docket numberConnects the custodian record to the legal order
Admission date and timeShows when the reported custody period began
Custody-end date and timeShows when the person physically left that custodian
Release type or authorityExplains bail, time served, court order, parole, or transfer
Destination or receiving agencyDistinguishes community release from continued custody

The court hearing time and the physical release time can differ. Processing, property return, transportation, another warrant, or a second custodian may intervene. When exact timing matters, request both the docket entry and the release transaction.

Request Nantucket County Release Records

For an island lockup event, use the Town and County public-records route or its JustFOIA portal. Ask NPD for existing adult booking, release, or transfer records. For a person housed at BCCF, contact the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Records Access Officer at 6000 Sheriff’s Place, Bourne, MA 02532, BCSOlegal@bsheriff.net, fax 508-563-4511. State that the case began in Nantucket and provide a narrow date range.

  1. Give the full name, approximate arrest or custody dates, and any incident, booking, commitment, or docket number.
  2. Ask for the admission record, custody-end date and time, release type, legal authority, and destination or receiving agency.
  3. Request the booking sheet, commitment or release paper, property receipt, and image only if each existing record is relevant.
  4. Ask for electronic copies and reasonably segregable nonexempt portions if part of a record is withheld.
  5. Compare the response with the correct Nantucket court docket before treating the event as a community release.

The BCSO public-records page shows the official request channels and warns that a reasonable production fee may apply. Its current details are visible in the captured source below.

That office holds BCCF admission, release, transfer, and house-of-correction records, not the earlier NPD lockup record.

Note: A narrowly described request helps the records officer locate an existing event without asking the agency to create a new explanation.

Nantucket County Records Law

Massachusetts Public Records Law, chiefly M.G.L. c.66 §10 with exemptions defined in c.4 §7(26), governs most executive-agency and local records requests. A records access officer generally must respond without unreasonable delay and within ten business days by producing records, giving a lawful estimate or schedule, or explaining a denial. Black-and-white copies generally may cost five cents per page. Search, segregation, and redaction labor ordinarily uses the lowest-paid capable worker and normally may not exceed $25 per hour without approval. An itemized estimate should come before a charge.

Access is not unlimited. Active-investigation harm, personal or medical privacy, juvenile rules, protected victim records, CORI restrictions, sealing, expungement, and court impoundment can affect what is released. Ask for segregable parts rather than assuming one exemption blocks the whole record. Police booking sheets are retained through prosecution and appeals under the municipal schedule, cell-monitoring reports have a three-year minimum, and police logs are permanent. Those periods do not create a public online search window.

Note: A retention period tells an office how long to keep a record; it does not promise public web access for that period.

Nantucket Bail Release Before Court

A short Nantucket arrest can end at the police station before any Barnstable booking. After-hours bail-magistrate review may permit release on personal recognizance or set cash bail and conditions. If bail is not posted, custody continues to the next court session and may require Sheriff transport. Massachusetts permits a bail magistrate fee of no more than $50 in addition to bail. That fee is not a jail release fee and does not prove that a release occurred.

The decisive records are the NPD custody-end transaction and the court or magistrate paperwork. A person who never reached BCCF will not have a Barnstable admission record. Conversely, a Barnstable search cannot explain a local stationhouse release that ended before transport.

Nantucket Release Records and Counts

NPD reported 452 combined arrests and criminal complaints in fiscal year 2025, down from 523 in fiscal year 2024. Those figures are not jail admissions and not release totals. A complaint may proceed without a custodial booking, while one arrest may involve several custody transactions. The denominator matters. Neither number can populate a “recently released” count or support an estimate of how many people left BCCF.

Important: No sourced Nantucket annual release total was found. Do not convert police activity counts into released-inmate statistics.

For a verified count, the requester would need a defined record series, date range, custodian, and event type. NPD releases, Sheriff transfers, BCCF community exits, and BCCF transfers are separate categories.

Find Nantucket County Released Inmates

No official Nantucket Police, Nantucket Sheriff, or BCSO rolling release feed was found. The reliable path starts with the last known point of custody. A live roster, if one existed, would show who remains held. It would not be a durable released-person archive. Use a positive record rather than treating a missing name as proof.

  1. Identify the arrest date, full legal name, likely court, and last known custodian.
  2. Ask NPD whether the person was released locally or transferred. Request the existing release or transfer record.
  3. If BCCF received the person, request its admission and release or transfer transaction from BCSO.
  4. Use the exact docket number in MassCourts to read bail, disposition, sentence, probation, warrant, and later orders.
  5. Continue with MA DOC, BOP, or ICE only when a record names that receiving jurisdiction.

Released people leave current-custody views. A missing name may also reflect transfer, spelling, system scope, or delay. Confirm the release through a transaction, order, or destination record.

For a same-day sweep, the Nantucket County released-last-24-hours fallback organizes the local calls and requests. A named-person search still requires identity matching and the full chain above.

Nantucket Release Court Record Search

MassCourts supplies a durable local trail after a short custody period, but remote access to most criminal cases normally requires the exact docket number. District and Superior Courts share 16 Broad Street in Nantucket, yet they are distinct courts with separate jurisdiction and clerk contacts. Obtain the case number from arrest paperwork, NPD, or the correct clerk. Then select the proper court department, division, and location before entering every character of the number.

The MassCourts entry page displays the available search routes shown below.

Docket events can show bail, recognizance, dismissal, plea, sentence, probation, warrant, or a later order. They establish legal action, not the exact time someone walked out of a police station or BCCF.

Note: District Court and Superior Court use separate clerk offices even though both Nantucket court locations share the same street address.

Massachusetts Release Status Search

Massachusetts does not provide a permanent public historical offender profile that promises a discharge date and photo for every former prisoner. Its official “Find someone housed” route sends users to VINELink and states that only the Massachusetts Department of Correction participates in Massachusetts VINE. Search with a full first and last name or a commitment number, select Massachusetts, verify the MA DOC agency, and compare all available identifiers.

Search itemUse and limit
Full first and last nameRequired public route; confirm identity beyond the name
Commitment numberStrongest matching key when known
AgencyMust identify MA DOC, not NPD or BCSO
Custody wordingRead narrowly as the reporting agency’s status
Release type and destinationRequest from DOC if the public result does not supply them

The official MA DOC lookup instructions show the scope and required search inputs captured below.

Massachusetts DOC search limits for Nantucket County released state inmates

A missing VINE result is not a discharge certificate. Ask the MA DOC Records Access Officer for an existing release or discharge record, sentence listing, release type, destination, and certificate when relevant.

Nantucket Release Type and Destination

Massachusetts release data may describe a change in legal status while a person stays confined or passes to a new agency. A DOC “release” category can include parole, court release, sentence expiration, another criminal-justice agency, immigration or federal authority, another warrant or sentence, death, or escape. The date alone cannot answer where the person went.

This distinction is especially important for Nantucket. Transfer is built into the local custody system. NPD may end its hold for Sheriff transport, and BCCF may end a county commitment for MA DOC intake. Always read the recorded release type beside the destination. If either field is absent, request the underlying transaction.

Nantucket Release Travel from Bourne

A person released at BCCF in Bourne may face a multi-leg trip home. Ground travel to Hyannis and a ferry to Nantucket are separate steps. The Steamship Authority schedule provides sailing information, but no official source says BCCF guarantees a ride, fare, or protected ferry connection. Confirm that the person is actually leaving BCCF, where the exit occurs, how they will reach Hyannis, and whether the planned sailing is operating.

Weather affects island travel, and it can also complicate custody movement. The Sheriff may use rare contingency holding when ferry service prevents transport. No fixed jail transport or release schedule was found. Do not travel to Bourne, the police station, or the courthouse based only on an expected hearing result.

Note: Ferry schedules show sailings, not the moment when a Nantucket County custodian completes release processing or property return.

Nantucket Release Supervision Resources

Parole and probation are distinct post-release systems. Parole is supervised release before a sentence reaches its maximum. Probation is a court-ordered supervision term. Massachusetts has no public name-search list of every parolee or probationer. Public life-sentence Records of Decision can show some Parole Board outcomes, while other individual parole records require authorization. A Nantucket docket may show that probation was imposed, but current probation details are generally private without the person’s signed release.

BCSO’s Bridge Center in Barnstable offers mainland post-incarceration navigation. Fairwinds Center supplies an on-island behavioral-health and crisis resource. Neither confirms custody or release. Nantucket County parole and probation records use the local probation office and the Cape and Islands parole region.

Nantucket County Federal Release Checks

Federal and immigration systems apply only when a record identifies that jurisdiction. The BOP Inmate Locator covers sentenced federal prisoners mainly from 1982 forward. Its results can retain a past release date and show that a person is no longer in BOP custody. That statement does not rule out state custody or supervised release. ICE’s locator covers current detainees and may cover people released from ICE custody in the prior 60 days. Exact matching and its short window make a no-result inconclusive.

The BOP Inmate Locator can display the federal release field shown in the captured source.

Federal BOP release record search relevant to Nantucket County cases

No federal prison or ICE detention center is located in Nantucket County. USMS handles federal pretrial movement but has no comparable public historical release locator. Use the federal docket, responsible facility, or agency records route for that stage.

Note: Federal locator results do not cover Nantucket police, Barnstable county, or Massachusetts state-prison custody records.

Nantucket County Release Source Comparison

Choose the source by custody stage. County, state, and federal systems do not form one universal roster.

Legal release orderExact-number Nantucket court docketThe judicial event, not physical exit time
MA state prison statusMA DOC VINE route and DOC recordsReported state custody change and durable discharge details

Q: Why is a released person missing from a roster? Current-custody systems remove or stop displaying people after the reporting hold ends. Transfer, scope, spelling, and delay can produce the same absence, so only a positive release source resolves the question.

Nantucket County Release Facilities

Three facilities or holding points serve the Nantucket custody chain. Barnstable County Correctional Facility is the primary contract incarceration site. The Nantucket Police Department Temporary Lockup handles island booking and short holds. The Nantucket County Sheriff’s Office has rare contingency cells and mainly transports people by boat or plane. Nantucket is the Commonwealth’s only sheriff jurisdiction without a conventional jail or house of correction, which explains why a search for a local jail roster fails.

A Barnstable transfer is a normal part of a Nantucket case. It should never be mislabeled as a community release.
